That evening the Nightwings bring Tasher’s unconscious body back to HQ, somehow managing to pole The Blue Drake through the dark canals with Tasher’s bloody Boat pole.
A short period of paranoia ensues. They change their clothes and try to clean up. Tasher goes up the roof, tosses his bloody clothes off and passes out. Everyone sleeps.
Jerig is suffering from a cut arm. While Raen healed the muscles the arm is still hurting.
3-15-6050 - Morning to Evening
A day of errands
Raen inquires around at his College (Aegon) and Herbalists about the cost for Nerve Repairs (for Jerig). He also asks a litle about his brother who has been missing for a couple days.
Jerig returns to Lemod Charg’s locksmith shop and tells Lemod the entire story of the Elgata Debacle. He then heads to The Cold Barley Soup Kitchen where he likes to ogle the barmaid Xarna. Xarna’s not in work that day. When Cricket shows up the owner, Divad Taminger, approaches them about a job - Xarna has gone missing. They had better meet with Kyse Pharnese regarding it.
Jerig and Cricket meet with Kyse in an hour. Xarna has been kidnapped and he has gotten a notice from the rival Alaxatan house (specifically one of the sons Jarl) who had Xarna kidnapped and is demanding certain trade concessions. Kyse and Xarna have been an item….too bad for Jerig. If they could recover Xarna as soon as possible he would make it very worth their while. The Alaxatan’s are unlikely to have done the kidnapping themselves. They have been known to work with the Red Dragons in the past…
Cricket, Jerig, and Raen contact Jens Rosha through Bubalak’s Coffee and Spice. Jens is one of Cricket’s Redcapes contacts. Jens informs them of the two largest present concerns - the rash of high profile burglaries of banks, and the brutal random murders (bodies being litterally ripped apart) all over the city - six so far. Jens has not heard anything of any Nightwings being investigated. Cricket gives him a usual 10 silver “service fee”.
Cricket, Jerig, and Raen go to A Heady Brew to meet with Deltar and receive payment for the Elgata departure log information. After informing them that they were incompetent he admitted they took clever precautions to avoid capture (i.e. appearing as Shadows). However he only gives to them 200 gold, keeping the remaining 100 to use for any needed bribes for covering up any investigations.
Tasher takes a day off from the canaling and takes it easy resting. He paints The Blue Drake to cover up any blood spots. Later that day he starts inquiring about where he might get a Quarterstaff made of Iron Wood, or even better, Dír wood.
Dag heads home, hangs around like a bum, heads back to Nightwing HQ - but his master may have a small surveillance job for the Nightwings soon.
A Herb Job - Tasher has a small smuggling job. He’s to meet Tomuk at the Night Quintar about retrieving some packages from a dropped ship (running a black flag with a white swan) out in the Bay.
Tomuk informs them that if they fail to deliver the packages to Herbs and Tobaccoes it will cost them their head. If they succeed they will be paid handsomely (the Nygath in the case would fetch a huge sum) - 2,000 orlini, paid in healing herbs.
They all load up on the Blue Drake and Jerig magically disguises it as a larger, 20′+ boat. They row out to the meeting spot, collect the herbs, and head back. It goes without incident.
It’s still the middle of the Night (a couple hours into Predawn) but they head to Herbs and Tobaccoes in the Library Quarter anyway to see about unloading the cases. Raen uses Presence to see if anyone is in the building…no…the proprieter mustn’t live above his shop.
3-16-6050 - Predawn
To Canal Maze - With a few hours until Morning the Nightwings decide to head to Canal Maze, into Red Dragon territory to find any leads on Xarna.
Raen and Tasher drop off Cricket, Dag, and Jerig in the Canal Maze and head back to Tasher’s apartment in Sighing Docks to store the bundles of Nygath until morning, unwilling to leave them on an unattended boat.
Jerig, Dag, and Cricket use the rooftops in Canal Maze to look around. Canal Maze is busier then most parts of town in the middle of the night. While most taverns are closed, the brothels are not. They see several Red Dragons here and there.
Tasher and Raen head back on the boat and they all redevouz. It is decided that Cricket will go out solo and find a friend of his in the Silver Wolves, Mokiya, she is frequently down in Canal Maze and may know something.
In front of two brothels, The Red Door and The Black Velvet, Cricket approaches two Shay women to see if they have seen Mokiya. Three Red Dragons (an Elf and two Laan) approach and start harassing the women (a common event). Cricket blows his Nightwings whistle for help and the Red Dragons to not take kindly to this action. The elf punches Cricket a few times and gets in a few good punches but Cricket dodges the rest.
Reinforcements arrive. The Nightwings are only a few hundred feet away when they hear the whistle. They run to Cricket’s aid and engage the three Red Dragons who draw knives. It is a short fight once Jerig webs the elf and Raen causes one of the others clothes to catch fire. The other Laan surrenders. Dag, one that is quick to anger, is mad at the elf for having kicked him in the head. He cuts off his hands. He screams. The two Changramai warrios standing guard in front of the The Black Velvet do nothing, they just stand straight, looking forward. The Nightwings bring the two Red Dragons into the alley and kick them. Their interrogation reveals that Xarna may be kept at the Silver Lining - a moneylending business. The two injured Red Dragons get pushed into the canal. The last gets to run free.
Home again
The Nightwings head back to Twelve Bridges. In the morning they go to the Herbs and Tobaccoes and deposite the Nygath. They receive their compensation - 2,000 gold orlini in Healing Herbs.

Indeed! Let’s take a “vacation” of sorts and try to head to the Sea of Tears. I’ll put in a vacation request w/ Lemod. I’m sure he’ll be cool w/ the idea, though….
When do we leave?
Good point
That too
Getting away from any local lawmen might be smart.

Maybe the fresh air would do us some good. It couldn’t hurt to let things cool down with those purple dragon pansies either. Do we need one o’ them navigator fellas to get to Lothar?

Hey there N-wings,
As you might recall it’s looking likely that my brother Jack (his given name is actually Lonthar, but he’s going through a bit of a rebellious phase and goes by this human name) has been kidnapped and sold into slavery. I have a rough idea where he probably is and it’s quite a trip. I must rescue him. Of course I can’t promise any sort of reward, but I could definitely use some help. I don’t have a plan yet, but I will come up with one soon, I don’t have any time to waste.

I like Tasher’s idea of some underwater breathing herbs…. does such a thing exist? That gets me thinking that any kind of “enhancement” herb might be helpful, like stealth improvement or things like that, if they exist.

I will go with you Raen, if you don’t mind making a couple of stops as I pursue my leads on a new weapon. Maybe you have some things to do around town. As for herbs, bone repair and bleeding cessation would be good. What about breathing underwater? That might come in handy.

I think maybe some ‘roid rage herbs might be helpful for Dag, but aside from that, just the usual order of herbs would probably do the trick (healing, bleeding, stun relief, mend bone, nerve repair)… Whatever you can get with the cash. Maybe even some hasty herbs, but not too many, Mr. Speed!
Here’s a question: are there any herbs that might help us in gathering info from a less-than-willing target (like a modern-day truth serum)? Just curious, as that might be handy…

Does anyone have any herb requests? I don’t need names, just desired effect. Also, it would be good if one of you accompanied me to select the herbs. I don’t think someone who’s trying to break a haste addiction alone with 2000 Orlini credit at an herbalist is such a great idea.

3-16-6050 - Morning
Perhaps a bit of sleep is in order, but come the Morning Quintar our group of Nightwings is again disheveled and perhaps a bit bloody from a night on the town.
Jerig busies his day away at Lemod Charg’s, repairing some locks and making several calls to homes and businesses in the Lower City.
Tasher, intent on getting a new boatpole/quarterstaff, tries to find where he might be able to find raw Dir wood for supplying to some yet-to-be-determined Alchemist.
Cricket spends his day at Nightwings HQ, discussing the state of affairs with Bat. Things have gotten messy the last few days and perhaps a low profile period is in order.
Raen spends the morning at Herbs & Tobaccos, picking out herbs for payment.
Dag returns home and falls to sleep before doing who knows what.
I don’t know any alchemists myself, but I’m sure we could find one. Jerig’s boss might be able to point us/you towards one. I might not be overly helpful on a recon mission. If you want to get some info ahead of time I’d do what I can. Maybe some building plans, or info about the bad guys.

Sounds good to me. I have been thinking about checking that place out as soon as I get out of work and the sun goes down. Color me interested in a recon mission. We can also check the pulse of the area, to see if the Dragons want our blood for the whole “cutting off the hands” incident from last night…

Thanks Jerig. I’m looking into a weapons upgrade. Some wax for my stick, you might say. Perhaps V could be persuaded to give us some details on a Jerig and Tasher reconnaisance mission a la the Silver Lining? Seeing as how we seem to be the only 2 Nightwings not exhausted from last night’s activities. If anyone else cares to weigh in, extra eyes won’t hurt. Keep in touch, sticky fingas.

Tasher, I don’t know of any alchemists, but you could try The Fiery Forge (a weapon shop) or Kerin’s Fine Tools and Implements (Old City, #197) and ask to see if these guys know any alchemists. That’s about the best I can do for ya! Do you need something in particular? Maybe we can scrounge it up for you in some other way….

O.K. So I s’pose the reward money would amount to more than I might make polin’ cargo though the city in a day. Plus the opportunity to kick some ass has some lure…
What say we meet late afternoon at some establishment near the Silver lining and do some roof hopping surveillance? Maybe we can plan a night of plucking a hot potato from the stew?

THE BLACK VELVET
The heavy oak door to the three storey establishment of The Black Velvet is guarded by nothing less than a pair of Changramai warriors (all the time). That right off should signal a certain level of service (and expense).
In contrast to Marika’s House of Pleasure, where Tasher likes to visit on occasion, the Black Velvet is a palatial establishment where a man can spend a night of exquisite pleasure with one (or more) women of extraordinary talent and beauty. However, expect to spend from 1 up to more then 10 gold for this evening of entertainment.
THE RED DOOR
The Red Door offers to satisfy more unusual pleasures and fetishes thatn the more mainstream brothel. The proprieter of the Red Door is Argan Thrul, a burly man from the Lankan Empire. It is reputed that many of his employees are slaves bought in that land.
Prices are high but the wealthy and perverse of Sel-kai are willing to pay; the Red Door is one of the wealthiest brothels in the city. Discretion is also (not surprisingly) a hallmark of this establishment. There is even rumored to be a secret tunnel between the Black Velvet and the Red Door, providing even greater secrecy.
Those with an unusual itch should expect to pay anything from 5 orlini up to 50 (for special requests) but Argan boasts that the Red Door can accomodate any appetite.
In addition to the fact that I think this barmaid is one hot potato, I would think that the reward money would be pretty sweet for her safe return. If that doesn’t interest y’all, I’m fresh out of ways to convince you…

Hey bloodsport,
Good job getting Vroomfogle to name a password in your honor. What happened to subtlety and subterfuge? We will have to splinter off and call ourselves the Nightthings. At the end of the day, though, I find your methods crude but effective. Much like the self-gratification style your elfin friend will have to employ in the future……
Good job on our little herb run, boys. Keep your sea-legs close at hand.
The price for rescuing 1 damsel in distress is what, now?………… Is hazard pay included? Or is the hazard to be its own reward. Hmmmm…..

So weer s’posed to risk our necks for some maid that Jerig’s been oglin’ in his cups? I got better (moneymakin) things to do than dodge some Red Dragon knives for some wench.
So what’s that surveillance job, Dag?
Oh, and where’s my herb??????
